St Georges Day

St George’s Day

Tomorrow is St George’s Day, and whether you’re going to be celebrating on the day itself or you’re waiting for the weekend, we’ve made a list of our top ways to revel in the occasion.

Barbecue

Hopefully the weather near you is good this weekend, in which chase it’s a perfect opportunity to dust off the barbecue for the first time this year. Whether you want to entertain family or friends, a bit of red and white bunting and a flag or two will mark a memorable St George’s weekend barbecue.

Pub visit

Rain or shine, a good traditional pub is a great place to get in the spirit of the occasion. Some pubs go all out to celebrate St George’s day, with decoration, dress-up or even a bit of free entertainment if you’re lucky, but all will be filled with patriotic merrymakers just like you.

Park/street fair

Parks can be enjoyed throughout the year of course, but springtime is the beginning of nature waking up from the long period of cold, and so a great time to rediscover the outdoors. If you live in a close-knit community that gets behind national events like royal weddings and jubilees, why not suggest putting on a street event for the day? It can be a great way of bonding with your neighbours and welcoming new residents to your street.

See what’s happening near you

Check out your local paper and social media, there’s likely to be some events nearby. Most towns have a parade on or around St George’s Day, and linked to this might be a fete or festival with plenty of fun activities for the whole family.
