Fur-Free Catwalk
In an historic move by the British Fashion Council, LFW will be the first of the ‘big four’ fashion weeks (the others being New York, Paris and Milan of course) to ban real fur being showcased. This comes as Burberry announced it would be phasing out its existing fur garments, and ceasing to create more. The British label has also committed to ending the practice of burning unused stock and will instead donate clothes to charity.
Celebs on the FROW
Whilst LFW is primarily somewhat of a trade show for fashion buyers and stockists worldwide, over the years its doors have been opened to the rich and famous as well. Reality stars, Oscar winners and platinum-selling artists are likely to appear on the coveted FROW (that’s ‘front row’), and we may even see royalty rubbing shoulders with the fashion elite.
Weird Street ‘Style’
It’s not only the catwalk looks that receive media attention during London Fashion Week, it’s also the attire of the guests that comes under scrutiny. Fashion is definitely a subjective thing, which is emphasized by some of the strange outfits that you might see walking the streets outside the shows.
London Fashion Week Festival
You’re unlikely to elbow your way into the exclusive main fashion shows during fashion week, however you can have your own taste of LFW luxury with the consumer-facing London Fashion Week Festival, held between the 20th and 23rd of September. With catwalk shows, pop-up shops and panel talks by industry professionals, it’s a must for any upstart fashionistas.
